When
Oriental medicine was introduced to the Western world about
30 years ago, many Western doctors and scientists were amazed
that so-called "psychosomatic" illnesses responded to acupuncture
treatment. This led to the ability to unlock the secrets
of the central nervous system and how it controls both overall
function and the function of individual organs. Oriental
physicians knew that by stimulating the trunk of the central
nervous system, they could temporarily release pain.
NAET
(Nambudripad's Allergy Elimination Techniques) is a blend
of the best of what Chinese medicine and Western science
offer, helping us to understand our brain functions and
ourselves. NAET is based on the Chinese theory of meridians
(energy patterns in the body) and their relationship to
blockages in the related organs. A blockage in the meridians
can cause physical, physiological, and psychological problems
as a result of the body's repulsion to an allergen. Allergic
sensitivities can be the result of how the central nervous
system perceives the substance and how it determines whether
or not the substance is a compatible field. It is only toxic
or nontoxic according to how the brain perceives it.
All
living substances, both living and non-living, have a magnetic
energy around them. This energy travels through your body
in pathways or channels called meridians. If there is a
blockage in a meridian, pain or illness can occur. All of
the body's meridians are related to a two-hour block of
time per day and an organ related to that block of time.
For example, the gall bladder meridian relates to the time
of 11:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. If one has sciatic pain that
begins at bedtime, the gall bladder meridian should be checked
for a blockage.
NAET
is a treatment to identify and eliminate allergies permanently.
Trained hands can identify where the blockage occurs and
the offending allergen. Using the technique of acupressure,
rather than acupuncture, the allergen is identified through
muscle testing. Muscle Response Testing (MRT), a standard
test used in applied kinesiology, is the body's way of communicating
with the brain. This test compares the strength of the predetermined
test muscle (for example, bicep) in both the presence and
absence of a suspected allergen. If the test muscle weakens
in the presence of the allergen, it signifies that there
is an allergy to the item. If the test muscle remains strong,
the substance is not an allergen.
Treatment
consists of stimulating the trunk of the central nervous
system (the back) and the branches and meridians that form
the complex link between the brain and body parts. But before
treating the back, a history and/or physical is always taken.
For small children, those in poor health, or those who may
be uneasy about the treatments, a surrogate is used. Following
treatment, the patient avoids the identified allergen for
twenty-five hours. For example, a patient treated for eggs
should not eat and/or touch eggs for 25 hours after treatment.
Devi
Nambudripad,MD, who developed this technique and has treated
thousands of individuals and families, has discovered there
are 13 basic allergies to foods. By muscle testing and treating
the basic 13, other allergy symptoms that a patient has
will begin to clear up. For instance, treating for Vitamin
C may clear up a runny nose assumed to be caused by exposure
to trees, grass, etc. Treating eggs and calcium can be the
allergens that cause eczema. Treating the basic 13 will
also boost the immune system before moving to more complex
treatments for allergens such as peanuts or combined treatments
such as sugar and insulin.
Treatment
with NAET can retrain the body through acupressure to return
to its original function and to accept the presence of the
rejected item without creating blockages within the body.
NAET is to be used in conjunction with one's current medical
plan. It is not advised to stop taking medications or allergy
shots until symptoms are relieved. At that time, the patient
is advised to work with their medical doctor to reduce or
discontinue medications as needed.
Case
Study: Allergy to Smoke
Mrs. H. came to the office requesting treatment for an allergy
to cigarette smoke. When exposed to cigarette smoke she
would begin to cough, resulting in asthmatic bronchitis.
This restricted her social life, especially dancing with
a group two to three times per week. She would leave the
dance group coughing and wheezing because she had to pass
through a smoke-filled bar. Smoke was collected into a jar
from friends' cigarettes and an open jar was left in the
bar to collect the smoke mixture. Mrs. H. received treatment
for these two containers of smoke and avoided the smoke
for 25 hours. She has reported that she has experienced
no coughing or asthmatic spells from exposure to cigarette
smoke since her treatment.
Devi
Nambudripad M.D. developed NAET. Dr. Devi was born with
infantile eczema, later developing debilitating arthritis,
chronic asthmatic bronchitis, and migraines. Like many allergists,
her interest began with her own illnesses. Searching for
relief, she developed a simple non-invasive solution by
combining techniques from several disciplines of learning.
Dr. Devi is an RN, Chiropractor, Acupuncturist, PhD, and
MD. She supports her work with confidence and has trained
thousands of medical practitioners from across the United
States and Europe.
Vickie
Barkley is a WHNP - Women's Health Nurse Practitioner. Her
practice of NAET is open to men, women, and children. Vickie
is available to speak to groups interested in knowing about
this exciting new treatment for allergy elimination. A lifelong
learner, Vickie plans to continue studies with Dr. Devi
and her work as a Nurse Practitioner. Reach her at NAET

MD), 5817 High Point Road - Suite 202, Greensboro, North
